About us …Here is what we wish to do:The Transcarpathia Benefit Society Inc. provides help to people in the region of Transcarpathia in Ukraine, an area which is mentioned extremely rarely in the headlines of the western media.
Due to an unemployment rate of 80-90% and a lack of any societal safety net on the one hand, and a low income on the other hand (an average wage of 75-100 dollars a month) the people do without many things in everyday life that are normal and commonplace for us. Our assistance arrives securely to the intended recipients by means of personal contacts. Often donations are made by members of the society directly to the persons involved. Close cooperation exists with the parishes of the evangelical Reformed Church in this region. We are not among the largest charitable endeavors. This gives us the advantage that a lot of our activity is conducted on a direct and personal basis. We make modest efforts with a view to achieving whatever is possible to accomplish. A large part of our support is directed towards special projects, to help others help themselves whenever possible. In practice, certain limitations do result from the presence of the Ukrainian border. Nevertheless there are still many possible ways to help.
