Package Drive Christmas Joy 2006

Christmas presents ...?

Maybe you have already started to think about how you can surprise the children and adults in your family this year, or whether you will bring some happiness to your co-workers and neighbors with a little something to remember them by. Why not give a present to some children who don’t even know you! Is there any nicer way to say thanks than glowing eyes and a cheerful, happy face of a child? Just look at the little girl from Transcarpathia on the adjacent picture.

For several years many people in our part of Germany and elsewhere have made donations to enable boys and girls in the western Ukraine’s Transcarpathian region to have a little surprise at Christmas—almost 3000 last year alone. A wonderful project, thanks to your help!

t would be very nice if you would support us in this effort this year, either once again or for the first time, so that none of these children goes empty-handed. With every single package you will give them and their whole family a bit of joy, hope and love in the midst of their often dreary daily existence.

Between 80 and 90% of the people in Transcarpathia are unemployed. The average income is between $80 and $100 a month, and pensions are from $70 to $80. The parliamentary elections in Ukraine last spring have barely contributed anything to the political stability of the country. The position of Transcarpathia, immediately on the boundaries of the European Union, time and again brings about drastic rises in prices in almost all areas. Many families are plagued by bitter poverty just as before, and for most of the children presents are only a foreign word.

Therefore, we are asking you very sincerely to support our package drive "Christmas Joy"!

Give these children a little hope and help us with your donation!

It’s wonderful to note that anyone can take part in this charity drive. Old and young, big and small, grandmas and grandpas. We are delighted for every idea, such as the participation by school groups, kindergartens, businesses, civic groups or sporting clubs. Everyone can help! You can all help to bring a little light into the often drab everyday life of these children.

We will collect the donations and convey the money to Ukraine. Our partners in the parishes of the Reformed Church in Transcarpathia will purchase the gifts. The people at that location know best what the children need, and what they will be most thrilled to receive. The gifts will be lovingly packaged and distributed to the children.

But your contribution is the most important thing in bringing a sparkle to the eyes of children!

Talk to your relatives and acquaintances about our Christmas package drive, get your neighbors, friends and co-workers excited about pitching in—and of course put your own donation toward the success of our common effort.

Every dollar helps!

It is so simple to give a Christmas surprise to a child in need and give him or her some joy.

Participate and tell others!

The 5 advantages to our system:

  1. The purchase of gifts on location means costly transport expenses are avoided, which then benefits the children
  2. Many of the gifts are far less expensive there, thus more presents for the same money
  3. The gifts packed locally are not subject to import and customs inspection.
  4. Purchasing in Ukraine supports local merchants and contributes to local incomes.
  5. Our partners in that country know best what will make the children happiest. They are delighted to take an active part in this work with activity that is possible for them. We thus enable them to do something for others, so they need not always be on the receiving end.

We ask for your donation to be wired to our account at the Vogtland Savings Bank.

“Angels once proclaimed to shepherds on the fields of Bethlehem news of great joy for all people, the birth of Jesus Christ. We also can bring happiness for others and are often rewarded ourselves. I find it wonderful to look into the big sparkling eyes of a surprised child. Therefore I am happy to support this package drive “Christmas Joy” for children in Transcarpathia. I hope you are also with us on this.”

„We live in a world where help for needy people is of inestimable value. We are often unaware of just how much a volunteer organization like the Transcarpathia Benefit Society accomplishes. This is why I support the package drive “Christmas Joy”. Why not help us too?”
