Transcarpathia Benefit Society--a Success Story

Reader opinion poll of the "Free Press" in the Vogtland region

Following the example of a German TV network's program "Germany Searches for the Superstar" as well as its search for the greatest Germans, the editorial team of the "Free Press" challenged its readers in the Vogtland region to vote for the greatest success stories and the most embarrassing bloopers in that region in 2003. There were 10 candidates in each category, but readers could also vote for their own favorites. Along with various success stories from areas of economics and culture, the Transcarpathia Benefit Society was nominated as one of the success stories.

In the first round, 24.9% of the participants, that is, every fourth ballot, voted in favor of the Society. That put it in first place from the start, even if only by a minuscule 1.1% margin. A second round of voting was conducted by phone, and the five top contenders competed for Outstanding Achievement of the Year.
It was an exciting moment! On 30 December the "mystery" was revealed and the final results were made public. 1627 votes were received for tabulation, mostly from the local region, but also from other parts of Germany.

In the final tabulation, the Transcarpathia Benefit Society was voted second place among the top success stories of 2003 with 27.3% of the votes.

The winner got 36.3% and third place got 14.8%. Thus our ballot share in the phone-in round had even improved slightly over the initial vote taken.

The Free Press ran the article under the headline: "Amazing: What the Transcarpathia Society accomplishes has great value" and stated that a large number of comments in conjunction with the poll show once again that "the accomplishments of the effective team surrounding voluntary chairman Christian Ehrler are acclaimed not only in this region."

For example, here is what Sieglinde Schuster of Gospersgrün said: "We were happy to decide in favor of this work of charity. Every year we collect for the children."

A wonderful outcome which made us very happy--and thanks to all who took the time to vote in favor of the Society!
