A Heart for Adam

NOTICE: News from 26 May 2003
János and Timea Molnár with their little child needing special care.

János Molnár and his young wife are happy. János has a job and both are thrilled with their first baby. Since medical conditions are not the best in Transcarpathia, they have gone to nearby Hungary for preliminary examinations. That’s where little Adam was born about 3 weeks ago. Their happiness seemed perfect. At first there was no indication of any difficulties.

But shortly after his birth, serious problems appeared. It was quickly discovered that the veins between his heart and lung had developed abnormally. Immediately the parents and newborn were taken by ambulance to the nearest large hospital. But nothing could be done for Adam there. Using the quickest means, they flew him by helicopter to Budapest and immediately performed emergency surgery. Since then another operation was done to try to correct this abnormality. Now he is in intensive care. When his condition is stabilized and his systems are normal, he is to undergo

yet another operation to complete the procedure. His mother stays with him, his father whenever possible. He has already used up 80% of his annual vacation time and must take care not to lose his job. All the medical procedures, from the preliminary exam to the emergency surgery, have used up the last savings of the young family. We still don’t know how much the last operation in Budapest will cost. The mother’s lodging in Budapest is also an additional expense, not to mention any future operations. The parents are prepared to sell their house, but that is surely not the proper solution, as they will need a home to live in.

We would like to help little Adam, who has had to endure so much already in his short life, and his parents. If you also have a “heart for Adam”, your donation should include the key word “Adam”. Please send any contributions to the bank account of the Benefit Society (key word “Adam”).

Now everyone can breath easier, especially his parents János und Timea Molnár, as well as all people everywhere who have made the fate of little Adam a matter of their own “heart”.

In the meantime Adam has returned home at last and the new family is happily reunited. But things have not always appeared so bright as they do now. Two additional emergency operations, each lasting about 6 hours, had to be performed on Adam, who is not yet even six months old.

The situation was extremely problematic when his little lungs refused to breath on their own. For 4 weeks he was on a resuscitator. He experienced inflammations caused by the tubing of the device, and a buildup of fluid in the lungs. Adam's condition was critical and life threatening. All measures attempted resulted in failure. But then came a “change for the better”, by the grace of God.

When different hoses were installed, Adam began to breath on his own again, and no longer needed the resuscitator. He responded positively to his medications. With each day he improved. Now he is at home. At first he had to return to Budapest monthly for follow-up exams, now he goes every 3 months, tentatively until his eighteenth birthday. With additional support from the appropriate Hungarian aid agencies, all four operations were paid for, and thanks to all donations from Germany, the additional costs for treatment, travel and especially the lodging for his mother during the lengthy time in Budapest were covered.

János Molnár is overwhelmed by the generous assistance of people in Germany and wishes to thank all contributors most sincerely for their support of Adam, whom he calls his “sunshine”. We wish little Adam all the best for the future, progress in his healthy development, and despite all that has happened, a happy childhood. And following all the excitement, concern and fears, we wish his parents a time of uninterrupted joy over their son Adam, and God’s blessing on the entire family.
