Christmas package drive 2001 Greetings for the "Christmas Joy" drive of the Transcarpathia Benefit Society Inc. Tuesday, July 12th, 2001 Who thinks about Christmas in the summertime? Surely very few of us do. Yet there are people who are already contemplating the family's holidays early in the year. They don't just do that for themselves, but for others who live in poverty and who lack life's necessities. We know of many initiatives which are striving to relieve suffering worldwide. One fact unknown to many is that at our very doorstep, specifically in Transcarpathia, Ukraine, living conditions are extremely difficult. "Someone has to help", said some citizens in Lengenfeld, in Germany's Vogtland, so they founded the Transcarpathia Benefit Society, which for the past four years has been involved in work with youth, supporting students, collecting donations and organizing the annual drive "Christmas Joy". This drive certainly does bring joy, especially to children, as the packages contain toys, tasty sweets or necessary clothing and medication. Small joys of life with a great effect. The volunteers who make this drive possible manage to do year after year, again and again, things which no one till now has dared to do. We must approach others and convince them to love their neighbor, just as one plans itineraries or the distribution of packages at the delivery site. Everyone who takes part says that it is a worthwhile task. I would like to encourage people everywhere to participate in this. Then despite all our problems, we are much better off than the people in the region of Transcarpathia. Get involved in the "Christmas Joy" package drive!
