A personal report

We have lost our second home.
My name is Béla Barta. I am a student at the Reformed Theological Academy in Sárospatak (Hungary). My parents are unemployed. I have two siblings: my brother Attila is a vicar in Tiszaújlak / Vylok (Transcarpathia), my sister Anna is 15 months old.

During the flooding of 1998 we lost our home in Mezövári. We moved in with our neighbor, in whose house the water had “only” risen to 60 cm (2 feet).

We were able to renovate the house. This year the high water made our new home unlivable too. (Remark by the Benefit Society: In this street the water was 3 meters (over 9 feet) deep.) All that was left was a clothes cabinet, a bed and a few pieces of clothing. My specialty books on theology were lost.

My parents moved to Vylok with my little sister and my 94-year-old grandmother to the home of my brother. A clean-up of our house would cost even more money. My parents don’t want to go back to Mezövári, since we have to be concerned the disastrous flooding might happen again.

My parents want to abandon their birthplace of Mezövári and start over somewhere else.

At the moment we don’t know what will happen next. We hope however that God, who so far has saved our lives and cared for us, will remain with us.
